Definition of a Young Player

In law a young person is deemed to become an adult at age 18. The law also imposes a duty of care on those responsible for minors (i.e. those under the age of 18). The ECB is recommending that this guidance is followed by all players up to the age of 18. It applies to young players in adult cricket as well as to all junior cricket played with a hard ball. Age groups are based on the age of a player at midnight on 31 Aug in the year preceding the current season.

Young Scintilla

April 21st 2007, Scintilla Cricket Club started its new Young Scintilla wing. We are aiming to train young people (both boys and girls) of our community and build a youth team which will be known as Young Scintilla.

Our main long term objectives are:

a. To support young and adult people who are vulnerable or disengaged from education, training or employment, or at risk of substance abuse, teenage pregnancyor involvement in crime;

b. To raise education standards through education workshops and cricket coaching courses to build confidence, self esteem, respect and discipline;

c. To provide high standard of information, advice and guidance, making it more tailored to the needs of young people, which is relevant to today’s world of work;

d. To increase awareness about equality and diversity issues and their role in society;

e. To educate and encourage participation engagement as citizens;

f.  To engage with parents and guardians to close the generation gaps; and

g. Working in partnership with local authorities and various support services to achieve the above objectives.
