Latest :Essex League is the next stop for SCC

We have just learnt that our application to join the Essex League (sponsored by Lords International) has been successful.  The league had its AGM today (14th December) and informed us straightaway.  Our experience of this journey has been a smooth one so far.  We will be playing our home matches at Seven Kings Park.

EDLC Division Two Runner Up 2008

Well, it wasn't to be - leading the Division Two of the Elliott Davis Cricket League for most of the season Scintilla had to settle for 2nd place.  After missing most of the second half of the league due to withdrawal of teams and bad whether it proved difficult - although the title decider went to the wire.  However, the club still sees 2008 season as yet another succees story...

The team attended dinner & awards night on 18th October and received their individual trophies and the runner up trophy.  We were also awarded the most behaved team in the league and we were also awarded a trophy and another cheque!

Title decider - this sunday

The final match is fast approaching.  Sunday, 7th September will play host to the last match of the season.  Due to the abondonment (bad weather) of the match between Jaguar CC and Central CC the title race is now between Scintilla CC and Mevericks.  Both team go head to head in the final match.  It will be a testing time for our boys after four weeks of no cricket!  The match will take place at Mavericks home ground @ Peter May Sports Centre, Walthamstow.  Best of luck and go get the title.

Scintilla senior team players on trial with Gidea Park & Romford CC

Two of Scintilla's senior team members have been selected to have winter nets with Gidea Park and Romford CC.  This club currently competes in the Sehpard Neam Essex Premier League.  This is highest level of cricket before County.

The two players are:

Mohammad A Halim (Tuhin):  He has played first division cricket in Dhaka as well graduating from BKSP - a cricket institute in Bangladesh.  He has scored well in in excess of 300 runs this year with a stylish century.  Tuhin is a stylish player with a lot of flair.

Goutom Goswami (Bappy):

Goutom played first division cricket in Dhaka and also graduating from BKSP.  By trade he is a classy off spinner but can also bowl very fast.  Excellent lower order batsman who has broken two club bats already!!  In one match he smashed a swing bowler for 4 sixes and 2 fours!!  He has style.

The club management wishes them both success.

Latest league news
At the end of July at least three teams from Division II withdrew from the league.  This means we have been without league competition for early a month.  We due to play our next league match on 7th Septemeber against Mevricks.  This will be the championship decider.  If we win that match we win the league.  It's a simple formula.

Barking Park Cricket Development Programme: a huge success

On 15th August, approximately twenty young people of Barking and Dagenham completed a week long intensive cricket coaching programme at Barking Park.  Scintilla Cricket Club teamed up with London Borough of Barking and Dagenham’s Summer Uni project to deliver a cricket summer camp to coach young people develop their basic skills in batting, bowling and fielding.  It proved to be huge success amongst the participant who were aged between 8 – 19 years.  The attendance over the course of five days was 100%.

On the last day of the summer camp there was a mini tournament amongst the trainees where they applied the skills acquired through coaching.  Scintilla CC which is a local cricket club received some funding support from the council to organise this project but had no idea that it would be prove to a huge success.  Mr. Shafqat Ezdi, the Camp manager said “we were just hoping that some young people may express an interest but to get 100% attendance from all 19 participants is beyond our wildest dream”.  Club Captain and a senior coach at the camp Ahmed Choudhury said “the willingness to learn new skills amongst the players was awesome and to see them applying them in a match situation was even more of a joy to watch.  The venue, Barking Park is an ideal location for cricket as it sits right in the hub of our community.  We hope that the council will consider this venue as a suitable place where the senior players of Scintilla CC can play their home matches in the future.  I strongly believe that through spots in the park this can further strengthen community cohesion in Barking and Dagenham”.  Club Chairman Mr S M Z Hossain also praised everyone for their hard work and said “I would like to thank everyone for their effort in this project especially the support given by London Borough of Barking and Dagenham to designing and delivering of this project”. Parents, guardians, council staff were invited to came along on Friday afternoon to see a match between the young people.  Everyone received a certificate of attendance and a medal for their hard work and dedication.  Also, Cllr Rocky Gill (Longbridge Ward), Bernie Davenport (summer university co-ordinator), Andy Johnson (Barking Park Manager) and Salim Yasin of Elliott Davis Cricket League handed out individual merit awards.
